A BROTHER and sister from South Africa have both been fined for driving a car without insurance.
Ts Kumunoluka (19) was seen driving a black BMW along Route de Beaumont on 13 June and swerving, the Magistrate’s Court was told.
St Peter Centenier Joao Camara said Kumunoluka told the police that the car was her brother’s, but he had allowed her to drive it. She said she was unaware that she needed insurance in Â鶹·¬ºÅ.
Her brother, 24-year-old Hilton Mazombwe, confirmed the car was his but did not have insurance in the Island. He said his sister had been allowed to drive in South Africa.
Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke told them: “The courts in Â鶹·¬ºÅ take driving without insurance very seriously.â€
However, he gave them credit for their guilty pleas and said: “I don’t think this is at the very highest level. It was more a lack of understanding.â€
They were each fined £1,200 and allowed to pay at the rate of £50 per week.
